USC hosts a virtual home game against the mighty Gators, and in a game billed as the deciding contest to determine which team will be forever known as the "Team of the Decade," loses to Florida.
Prior to the game, Oklahoma's Sports Information Department will issue a press release stating that due to their appearance in more BCS Championship games this decade than any other team ('00, '03, '04, '08), they should be considered Team of the Decade, regardless of this year's outcome.
Not to be outdone by Oklahoma, of course, The Texas S.I.D. will counter with with it's own unique brand of woulda-coulda-shoulda mathematics and cry foul.
Les Miles states that the Team of the Decade title should be determined by highest 4th down conversion rate, thus giving LSU ('03, '07) that distinction. He notes that his team has converted more 4th downs than Florida, USC, Texas, and Oklahoma combined have even attempted.
Jim Tressel has no comment.
In a related story, Florida Governor Charlie Crist (no relation to Matt) submitted a bill in Tallahassee that would officially declare Florida the "State of the Decade" by virtue of the fact that at least one team in the BCS Championship game has been from his state 7 of the 12 times it has been played. The bill, however, is not expected to pass, as most congressman were not even in office yet the last time either the Seminoles or Hurricanes made a BCS bowl game.
