Well, Tim Tebow is gone and what a great 4 years it was but every good thing must come to an end. So, it is early but let's look at what the 2010 Florida Gator Football team will look like: Offense: QB (John Brantley) - Tim Tebow is gone but in steps the guy that can easily make people forget about the Legend if that is possible. Gone will be the QB run but not always, Brantley can run and will do it every so often to keep the defenses honest but it will not make people forget about Tebow. What will however is his cannon right arm and QUICK release. He can thread the needle guys and girls and I will guarentee Heisman talk about him before the end of the 2010 season. RB (Jeff Demps, Emmanual Moody, Chris Rainey, Mike Gillislee, Mack Brown) - This goes without saying but the Gators are loaded at RB. Mack Brown is wavering a bit with his commitment after RB Coach Kenny Carter left for Louisville but he should stay and he is special, very special. Speaking of recruiting, if Pete Carroll leaves then there is a huge possibility that Dillion Baxter (5* #1 RB in the Nation) is more than likely going to decommit from USC and we look like a front runner. WR (Deonte Thompson, Andre Debose, Carl Moore, Omaris Hines, Frankie Hammond Jr., Stephen Ali, Chris Dunkley) - I have been touting Thompson for years now and it is finally time! Andre Debose was last year's stud recruit and a hamstring surgery sidelined him for the entire year. This guy is very, very special and will remind people of Percy Harvin. Carl Moore lost last year due to injury and should shine after his medical redshirt Senior season is granted. Brantley will make all these guys special and the offense will be much more balanced and loaded at WR no matter what you hear from the so-called experts. All the above guys are 4-5* recruits and Dunkley is a special incoming Freshmen. all you needed was to have watched the Under Armor game this past Saturday to understand how special he is, a freak! Speaking of freaks, Kyle Prater (5* #1 WR in the Nation) will be decommitted from USC if Carroll goes and well you never know but very loooong shot. In short, USC' loss is our gain, pay attention to the Carroll situation, could be a present for the Gators. TE (Desmond Parks, Gerald Christian) - No doubt we are weak here but Parks was a top recruit last year and Christian is the #2 rated TE recruit this year. OL (Carl Johnson, Xavier Nixon, Sam Robey, Marcus Gilbert, Maurice Hurt, Nick Alajajian, Pouncey Twins, Ian Silberman) - Everyone above has started for the Gators in their careers. Note the Pouncey Twins being almost last, that is because I believe like most that they are gone to the NFL. Recruiting update, the Gators are in contention for the #1 Recruit in the land, a massive OT named Sentrelle Henderson. It would be a shock if he came to us but our chances were slim to none two weeks ago and now he can't stop talking about the Gators. Defense: DT (Jaye Howard, Omar Hunter, Lawrence Marsh, Justin Trattou, Terron Sanders, Shariff Floyd*, Leon Orr) - Everyone returns and will the REAL Omar Hunter please stand up!! He was a stud can't miss prospect a couple of years ago and was suppose to come in right away and be a stud from day 1, well it is year three and we are still waiting. Speaking of can't miss prospects, all indications are that Shariff Floyd, the #1 DT in this year's class will announce his decision to go to UF tomorrow and he should step right in and contribute. Trattou continues to improve and impress and should be all SEC next year. DE (Duke Lemmons, William Green, Justin Trattou, Earl Okine, Kedric Johnson, Ronald Powell, Dominique Easley, Neiron Ball) - Alright, here is our problem. If Dunlap comes back which I highly doubt then we are deadly but if not then we have alot of unproven but very talented DE's. Ronald Powell is a stud and expected to announce tomorrow for UF. He is a terror and has surefire NFL Top 10 pick in his future. If Dunlap leaves, Powell will start next year, bank on it! Easley is just as special but again all are young and the experience is very little. Gators could struggle to get to the QB next year. LB (AJ Jones, Brandon Hicks, Jelani Jenkins, Jon Bostic, Lorenzo Edwards, Brenden Beal) - Some might think we are going to lose a lot here with Spikes and Stamper gone but the reality is the Gators will just get faster and deadlier at this position. Our best LB last year before his injury was AJ Jones, bar none! I know Spikes was a beast but he actually peeked two years ago during his Junior season. The whispers down in Gatorland this past year was how slow the Senior LB's were and folks they were. The group above will bring the speed back with Jones leading the way. Jenkins is ready and will be a stud! DB (Jenorius Jenkins, Adrian Bushnell, Jeremy Brown, Joshua Shaw, Cody Riggs, Jordan Haden, Jaylen Watkins, Demar Dorsey, Travan Van) - JJ is the real deal and will be ready to step in for Joe Haden as the shut down corner. After that it is iffy at best. We will be young and untested here but very, very talented. Demar Dorsey is so good he was dubbed the " No Fly Zone" in the Under Armor game this past week. He is a stud recruit along with Joe Haden's little brother, Jordan. S (Will Hill, Major Wright, Ahmad Black, Josh Evens, Matt Elam) - We are loaded here and I mean loaded. Our backups could start for any team in the land. Elam is expected to announce tomorrow for UF and he is already achieved legendary status before ever playing a down for anyone. Considered the top Athlete in the state of Florida and a 5* can't miss phenom. K (Caleb Sturgis) - We are fine, 50-60 yard FG's are chip shots for this guy. P (Chas Henry) - Will be First Team All American. So what does this all spell for the prediction for next year. I for one fully expect the Gators to be very underrated going into next year but after they go up to Knoxville and steam roll Kiffin's Cheaters, the hype will return. Make no bones about it, the Gators will be underdogs going to Knoxville but will quickly strike fear into most after they win by more than two touchdowns. They should go to Alabama in October undefeated and hopefully better and healthy as this should be a huge test. Regardless the SEC Championship Game is a very real possibility and from there, well you can imagine as the SEC has owned the BCS National Title for four straight years now. Also remember that the Gators seem to win it now every other year and next year is that every other year. Watch out and Go Gators!

It’s not an off week, Gator Faithful!
Vanderbilt, while no powerhouse, is coming to the Swamp to try and beat the Gators. While unlikely, events are culminating to make this game interesting. They have the SEC best kickoff return man, we’re at home for the first time in weeks, we just wrapped up the SEC East and Brandon Spikes won’t play because he deliberately poked a Georgia player in the eye. Complacency may be rampant this week. Let’s talk some football…
Here’s what you need to know about Vandy…Warren Norman is their entire offense. He’s returned four kickoffs for TDs and has had three others on long runs during the game. While the KO number is impressive, the rushing TDs…not so much. None the less, he is the majority of the offense of a not very good Vandy team. Our special teams do tend to be special, but if they get complacent, he will make the Gators pay. Mackenzi Adams is starting at QB for the Commodores this week, which was a surprise to me because I didn’t know they were playing with a completely different QB all season. See…even guys who write about the Gators can get complacent. Fact of the matter is this, when you least expect it, Vandy could make life difficult for us. We will still win, but a win by 10 points is not near as impressive as a win by 30 over a team that is oh for the SEC this year. They’ve got nothing to lose. Now, having said that, they have no vertical passing game and even if Norman gets two kickoffs for a TD, they’re going to need more than 14 points to beat us and their defense won’t be able to stop us the entire game. Just isn’t happening. In fact, I’m hoping the Gators use last week’s game as a springboard to start opening up the offense more. May be play a few guys on the depth chart (John Brantley, anyone?) and get some people out there for game. experience. I always refer to the 1996 National Champion Gator team that needed a late 4th quarter TD to put a stingy Vandy team away. That team (averaging 46 points a game) only scored 24 at Vanderbilt that day. Complacency happens. On any Saturday this season, Vandy shouldn’t beat us. However, this is the Saturday we are playing them and they’ve got nothing what so ever to lose.
We’re still gonna win. I think our game last week opened up some eyes that if we do not turn the ball over and call some other number besides Tebow’s that we can’t be stopped on offense. It probably also helps that we scored four of our five TDs outside the red zone. It makes it easy not to worry about red zone scoring if you score well before you get there. Somewhere in some alternate universe I should be the master of the obvious. The zero turnovers were also key. That would be a nice trend to continue. With Herschel’s record broken, I hope we see a majority of carries by our running backs in coming weeks. Tebow and company still do not look that smooth on option pitches, but this will be a good game to work on that. I doubt Chris Rainey will play much since he bruised his shoulder, but Demps (around the corners) and Moody (up the middle) should be sufficient to run over the Commodores. It’s also funny that by spreading the ball to other receivers, you totally get the defense off guard. That, more than anything, was the best thing we did last week. So….Brandon Spikes. He got caught on TV and is paying a big price, both personally and professionally. Things happen at the bottom of a pile. He got caught. His season won’t be the same. Neither will ours. We look like the Miami teams of the 80’s and the FSU teams of the 90’s...and we will be reminded of it constantly. That’s not great company (other than winning percentages) to be associated. People will downplay it in the coming weeks to a degree, but it will be brought up at the SECCG and subsequent bowl game with a vengeance. Whatever. It happened and we will have to deal with it. Dealing with it by putting on a massive defensive showing this Saturday would be great. Our defense is starting to look like it is having fun on the field. That is huge. Our offense is showing signs, but not there yet. It’s been a challenging season, but let’s face it, it’s great to be a Florida Gator. Florida 42 Vanderbilt 3. I’m hoping for serious playing time by Brantley and all the backups in the second half and I'm not sure we need a huge lead to see him in there. I'm also hoping for a kickoff returned for a TD by our own Brandon James. Join your local Gator Club this week where Victory is best served with Gators! ‘Nuff said.

I love this game, Gator Nation!
Without a doubt the Florida-Georgia game is one of my most favorite games of the Gator football season. This year it is extra special since it falls on Halloween…the first time that’s happened since 1992 when we won a 26-24 slobberknocker because Shane Matthews rolled to his left instead of right on a TD pass to put the game away. Much like that game, this game is setup to be a slobberknocker of its own. Our offense is reeling in the red zone. The Tebow-nator is not playing up to his usual self and UGA is coming off a bye week. I’d be worried about these things, except that I’m not. Let’s talk some football…
Georgia is not that good a football team. Joe Cox, their QB, will not lead them to the SEC promised land. He may have enough in him to win this game, but he is not good enough to dominate the SEC. Did I mention he has to face our defense? My guess is that they will try to get the ball to wide receiver, AJ Green, early and often. He’s a deep pass threat and it will be difficult to contain him with our smaller cornerbacks. They’ve even had two weeks to prepare for this game, so they are probably going to throw some wrinkles into their game plan. It must also be noted that the last time UGA had a bye before this game was in 2007 and the infamous endzone stomp. You know…I’m dithering here. The stomp offended every Gator worldwide when they did it. Why? Because they did it…and they beat us. They don’t beat us, who really cares. UGA is trying to rally behind the “timeouts” called by King Urbanus the Great last year in the same way. Really?!? That’s going to get you pumped up for this game? Timeouts??!?!! C’mom. Let’s face it, Georgia’s year has been subpar and they got waxed by Tennessee. Timeouts are going to get you revved up for THIS game? Let me be succinct, it only requires these words to get motivated for this game “It’s Florida-Georgia”. That’s it. If you are reading this and you don’t feel an intensity about this game that borders on obsession, then you really need to take a long hard look at the Gator shirt your wearing this weekend and figure out if you have what it takes to be a part of the Gator Nation. Yes, this is a bit harsh, but seriously…what else do you need? 75-0. Run, Lindsay, Run. Fourth and Dumb. Herschel 3-0 vs the Gators. Spurrier 0-3 vs the Bulldogs as a player. The Stomp. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?
Whew. I’m pumped up just writing that. I digress. Anyone notice that we’re having problems in the red zone? Of course you have. It’s all over the papers and in front of our eyeballs as we watch it. Well, let’s just go with that and figure we are in store for the same production. Fact remains…we are moving the ball and controlling the clock. Another fact, our defense is ruthless. Whatever Georgia brings to this game (even with their extra week), we’re bringing a lot more on defense. Last week, our defense played inspired, and for the most part, looked like they were having fun. They turn in a similar performance this weekend, then it won’t matter what Georgia does. Just a few things to note. We are not falling on fumbles. We keep trying to pick them up and make big plays. It’s time to get back to basics. Fall on the lose ball and don’t let the other team have it. Our option pitches by Tebow look awkward and are not in sync with the running backs, plus our O Line is still not in sync. Demps and Rainey around the ends. Tebow and Moody up the middle. The I-formation worked last week because we’ve never done it. No one was even close to Rainey when he walked in the endzone. We’ve become repetitive… almost to the point that our only offensive weapon is Tebow himself. Either we use what we got as offensive weapons or we’re in for more games of the same. If you have last week’s game, go back to the second interception that Tebow threw. The nice camera angle behind Tebow shows a wide open Deonte Thompson racing down the middle of the field with the defender six yards behind. We have receivers. We are just not using them and Tebow is holding on to the ball too long. I go back to last week’s suggestion, throw Brantley in there for a play or two. Just for a change of pace. He gets rid of the ball quickly and if he connects on one big play, it puts the defense on their heels for rest of the game. Mainly, its just because I want to see Brantley get in a few games the rest of this year. Brandon James needs another kickoff returned for a TD. Defense, Defense, Defense. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. All sevens this week. Florida 28 Georgia 7. Game time 3:30pm EST, 12:30pm PST on CBS. This is a must to join your local Gator Club, because a Victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is best served with Gators. It’s Florida-Georgia! ‘Nuff said.

We live in interesting times, Gator Nation!
I think the media (with the exception of those in Florida) are about over the Gators. They are a bit tired of hearing updates on Tebow’s concussion, or how dominating our defense is play or even how un-spectacular our offense is playing. Such is life at the top. Other than making my weekly preparation a bit less enjoyable to read, it doesn’t mean much to me. Despite this, it does look like non-Gators are wishing for a Gator upset this weekend to stir up the polls a bit, as Alabama has become the college football team du jour. With a potent Arkansas offense arriving at The Swamp this weekend, many are wishing for a serious Gator challenge from the Razorbacks. I’m thinking….not. Let’s talk some football…
Bobby Petrino has exactly the type of offense he desires with Ryan Mallet at QB and scoring tons of points with 40+ points in five games. Of course, the flip side is, he has the type of defense he is used to, but probably not desired. The Razorbacks have given up 35+ points twice in five games with one of those being a 51-42 loss to Georgia. This type of scenario, while attractive to the media, does not bode well for their chances this weekend. Nor does the fact that they may be without leading rusher Michael Smith this weekend due to a hamstring injury. If Arkansas becomes a pass-only offense, we will absolutely shut them down this weekend. Of course, I don’t want to get ahead of myself. Arkansas is not without weapons and they did play somewhat good defense against an Auburn team that was averaging 40 points a game. So, I won’t take them lightly. Petrino is no slouch as a coach, but his one glaring weakness in his years at Louisville and now Arkansas is when he plays really tough defensive teams, he does not fare well. You need a potent offense to help you win games, but you definitely need a defense to reliably win games. Some criticize that the Gators do not have a potent offense this year...more on that later. Suffice it to say, Arkansas will see this game as a huge opportunity for them. If they can come up with a game plan to keep the Gators off-balance on defense and limit the offense, they believe they can upset the Gators. Timing may be right, we are after all coming off a very emotional win at LSU. Could our defense be flat this weekend? Again, I’m thinking….not.
Ok, I don’t usually bring up bad news, but I'll digress a bit this one time. Our offensive line is playing solid, but not great as a unit. Our depth took a hit when Matt Patchan went down with a torn ACL. We currently have a six-man rotation on the O-Line with eight preferred. While that may not sound like much, we are going to play individuals with limited experience (see: Maurice Hurt) and individuals that are dinged up a bit (see: Maurice Hurt, Pouncey Twins and James Wilson). The bottom line remains that our offense that was powerful last year was playing behind a two-deep, experienced O-Line with an offensive coordinator who had been in place for four years. This year, we have a bit more than one-deep, O-Line with limited experience and an offensive coordinator who assumed the position in January. Doesn’t mean we aren’t capable, but when you are at the top of the heap and everyone is gunning for you, mistakes have to be few and very far between. While I thought our offense played very well against LSU (3:1 in time of possession is nothing to sneeze at with LSU’s defense), we do need to have more TDs and less FGs (besides the fact that I like more TDs and less FGs). People keep pointing to our receivers as the issue, but if we can run the ball, passing will get easier. The problem is that we are not getting the huge plays like last year. The bright spot is that I see much of this changing this weekend. I’m avoiding the Tebow concussion on purpose only because I’m a bit tired of the hour-by-hour, national watch of his condition. Still, we are at home this weekend, we have a group of running backs who just went into Death Valley and gouged them for 198 yards. That’s not bad and I’m thinking we’re gonna see a few big plays this weekend. Everyone's figured out that Brandon James can't return a punt if they trade long punts for long hang-time and our defense isn't letting anyone score, so he's not doing much on kickoffs either. Still, he will get at least one kickoff this weekend and I'm hoping it goes the distance for a TD. We might even get a few defensive scores this weekend since Arkansas likes to pass a lot. We're at home and I'm thinking it's time for an offensive explosion, but give the Razorbacks offense credit as well. Florida 49 Arkansas 14. Gametime is 3:30pm EST, 12:30pm EST on CBS. I think people should give our offense more credit. Join your local Gator Club this weekend where Victory is best served with Gators! 'Nuff said.
